Of course, the corollary to that thesis is that the Middle East and Israel would be safer and more stable than it is now if Saddam was still in power in Iraq, working on his conventional military and illegal long-range missiles, and keeping those hundreds of scientists on his payroll.
At with Syria and Iran, sooner or later somebody would have had to deal with it.
