re: substance

Again, your own examples tend to work against you.

How well would the United States have fought World War II if FDR hadn't been able to bring the country out of its Depression funk?

I think you have it backwards. I think the real question is how well could FDR's policies have brought America out of a Depression funk if WWII hadn't intervened?

You don't think a real enemy on the horizon had more than a little something to do with marshalling American industry, unity and morale over the following few years?

Seriously, I don't expect you personally to come up with a solution to problems that are giving experts gray hair. It's not your job. But the Democratic leadership can't really make that excuse. The idea that leadership and a false perception of capability can make up for a lack of actual policies has some supporting examples in history, but I'm not sure you'd want to use them.

We know for sure that Republicans are a disaster in power, so it's obvious that Democrats can't help but do better.

"We can do it BETTER." Rehashed yet again, with no details.

I don't know what's going to happen in the next election, but the Democrats damn well better have their act together by 2008.
