Working security programs

Tom, let me get this right. You're a fisherman that throws out this huge net that brings in and kills thousands of species of fish you really weren't interested in but, since all you cared about was the tuna and you snared a few of them, the program's working.

The way I see it, a working program doesn't need to abuse the rights of the innocent to find a few guilty loose ends. It's the lazy way out. The tiny trickle of information I believe we're getting from the wiretaps, unending detainments, torture, passenger watch lists, etc. our adminstration has pushed on us, could be attained through legal and proven methods of intelligence gathering. Those methods also have traditionally not caused alienation among the targeted nations if you concentrate only on the truly bad guys.

Let's just say your worst nightmares come true and the Democrats assume total control of the government and go on some revenge streak. Do you really want them to be able to indiscrimately tap the phones and internet records of their political opponents without some court oversight? It would seem that you might fall into that targeted group. Are you that naive to think that your life is so sparkingly perfect that dirt couldn't be dug up on you to tarnish your name, ruin your credit, or remove your citizen rights?

Oh, never mind. You're probably not scared of that at all since the Dems have really not abused that privilege during our lifetimes. They tend to be a bit more secure about things.
