I don't like them of any persuasion nor do I care for laws that put more power in the hands of government. I believe as stated in the recent film V for vendetta, that the Government should fear the people. This is so fundamental that it seems it would have originated with a philosopher but oddly it is attributed to the film
Government fear of the people and separation of powers has always protected this country in tricky situations.
While I am against invasive laws, I am also a shameless pragmatist and I believe that brave and worthy individuals do what is required in time of crisis, with full willingness to face the consequences of their actions. If the rule of moderation is applied we should be safe under this doctrine. Given the choice of a world with or without such individuals, I choose the former.
It troubles me that we seem to be obsessed with reducing to law many things that have been done in the name of common sense forever. Common sense usually prevails while laws can be misused.
In a perfect world we would be a government of individuals under natural law instead of laws created by individuals. Until then we do the best we can and the less the better.
