As a Southerner I must say I am glad the Confederacy failed. I fear we would have been like Europe which each state fighting each other. We would have vulnerable to foreign attacks. WWI and WWII might have ended up different. (Harry Turtledove wrote some books about that).

Today, I donâ€™t think independent states would fight each other in wars, but we would be more vulnerable to foreign threats. United we stand, divided we fall.

That being said, I sometime wonder how the Republic of Texas would be doing if it still existed today, especially if we had all our original territory.
