Yep, "comments about hippies and Al Gore" are over the line. I'm not sure if that's ad homineum or arguing from ridiculing authority, or both, but it's definitely not science.

On the face of it, you'd expect that if the Space/Science moderators succeed in constraining debate to the real science, then the reality of global warming would be confirmed in the blink of an eye and we can move on.

Yeah, right, suuuure in the blink of an eye. TB is just as absolutely adamant that science is on his side, and his certainty is that of diamond. This argument won't go quietly into the night. I figure that the refs are going to have to crack heads and kick butt for quite some time before the arguments settle down, but at least their goal is the correct one. Science, and science alone, will answer the question. Wherever the chips fall and whomsoever's oxen may get gored.
