at the beginning of a thread one posts they began by listing the people they didn't want responding to the subject, at least initially and those people actually respected the wish. That I think is the big "if". I'm not sure people like Tom have the restraint necessary to hang back until we have had some reasoned brainstorming get going.

Some boneheads just can't understand when a topic is broached that the author is simply looking to inspire new thought, that they might not even believe their proposal would ever work or would be so difficult to implement that the subject itself is only a seed to open up thinking. One shouldn't have to state that after their credibility has been established as an intelligent and learned man. That's what drove ER away. He was used to the rules of conversational respect and was blindsided by the attacks.

Scott, you and I have had heated arguments before but your post here was reasoned and respectful. Could you give a few others lessons?
