re: The way I see it...

I certainly don't want to drive TB off. As impervious to fact and reality as he is, as phoney as his claim to be a "libertarian" is, he seems as if he could be a nice guy.

I believe the frustration comes in expecting a True Believer to acknowledge reality. There's a certain cognitive dissonance in dealing with Tom. Seems reasonable, seems intelligent, though he has huge gaps in his education, hasn't changed any beliefs since he was 12 or 13, but gives the impression he could be open to new information.

And yet what comes out is invariably what a 13 y/o has been taught to believe. That dissonance is what's frustrating.

As for having him gone, that would be a loss, and I hope he stays. I do read much of his stuff, not the endless blogs he is fond of not even quoting but referencing, and admire the artful dodging he does. While he has no interest in resolving a disagreement, only in obfuscating and dodging, thinking that's "winning", he can be amusing. I do wish him well, sincerely, and hope he stays. Tom has socially redeeming qualities.

SDAI, and Scott Evil, on the other hand, I don't read. Wouldn't miss. No socially redeeming qualities in either, though some folks think there are. Matter of taste, I guess. Their pathologies are way too clear and classic, they are completely predictable. One would only have to mention a 3 digit MMPI score or DSM IV classification number to describe them completely, without any other qualifications. I find myself either consistently bored or saddened people like that exist at all.
