But hey, it's all on Flame

I'd have let down the standards if I'd aimed lower. Besides, I'm running a serious deficit in the Aspersions & Insult division, and I'm running to catch up to "buttmonkeys", "psycho hose beast", "Commie", "surrender monkey", "axis of weasels", "welfare queen", "Islamofascism", "cut-n-runner", "media elites", "cultural elites", and a million other routine insults.

I'm convinced that the insults are so routine that Wingers don't even notice. It's like a dialect in which only the first person singular and plural aren't insulting. For Everyone Else, There's InsultingCharge™.

Here's an exercize to try: Use the actual names of people and groups instead of an insulting categorical label. Can you say "Democrat" instead of the inflammatory "Leftist" or "Leftie"? Or just "Democrat" without an abusive adjective in front of it?

How about breaking the habit of framing everything in a way that insults everybody who disagrees with you? The "2+2=5" schtick was only moderately funny the first time, but its fundamentally insulting point about the intelligence of your opponents rapidly wore through the tepid humor to reveal the maliciousness behind it.

The Grand Exercize: Next time you wrap yourself in the flag and declare your love of America, stop there. Don't go on to the stereotypical rant listing everything that's wrong with America, because it contradicts the sentiment, and causes people to wonder how it's possible to love a nation as an abstraction but hate the reality of its people and their culture. It's a parodox to claim to love America but relentlessly insult its people. What's the real definition of "anti-American", eh?

Perhaps it's to be found in Spiro's colorful phrase: You, Tom, are a Nattering Nabob of Negativity.
