While a case has been made that stress and other emotional factors can sometimes affect healing or disease, and of course behaviors like smoking or failing to get proper preventative care make a difference, that's as far as I would take it.
The idea that people somehow always "deserve" what happens to them in a metaphysical sense, either in terms of disease or anything else, is rendered, by sheer observation, inane. So many evil people live to ripe old ages, and so many innocents are taken by disease or other misfortune, that the concept itself becomes invalid almost as soon as you think about it.
You can try to rescue the idea by pulling in "past lives," but in my mind this is simply a kludged attempt to patch up a bad concept, and not very well at that. Kind of like physicists who postulate brand new physical laws because their numbers don't line up right. The philosophical equivalent of epicycles in astronomy, or phlogiston chemistry.
