Reagan did.

I'm pretty sure when he had the operation to remove water on the brain that it seriously impaired his brain's functioning, triggered a deteriotion and was never the same afterwards. Being President is not a good health move. Clinton and Bush both seem to have aged almost 15 years in 8 years or less. Carter, too, seemed to age ten years in four. They choose one at the expense of the other. All the outdoor functions promote massive cell damage and radiation exposure which contribute to premature aging and other health hazards.

The studies I cited were not about 'positive thinking to accept treatment' but were about the brain's ability to produce cells that perform the immuno-response. In other words: thoughts can make you more susceptible to illness.

The paper I linked to talked about "stress" and what is stress? Stress is a negative emotional reaction to things around us - and is triggered by negative thoughts. Hate and anger are high stress negative thought chains.

It's a wake up call. When suddenly don't smoke, don't do drugs and don't hate are clumped together as health danger warnings. "Shoot-em up and kill em all" video games will not just warn about seizures due to fast flashing lights, but will warn about the health hazards of thinking too much about killing (fake or otherwise). The whole world is long overdue for the wake up call about hate, stress and other negative emotions - and the power of the mind to prevent illness, heal illness and perhaps someday to even help heal others with one's mind.

I care for Molly Ivins and truly wish her the best. She may be gone from this world for now but, I believe, all that was her has moved on and will return again as Benjamin Franklin so aptly put it "in a new, revised and improved edition".
