External Forces

Good searching! Did you search for studies that found the opposite? Like you might if this topic concerned Global Climate Change?

Believe it or not, I have explored many aspects of your philosophy; although from other sources and long before I ever wandered into here. There is much in common.

My own views differ from yours in many ways, however. In a way, it is like looking at a cousin on a different evolutionary path - common ancestors sundered through adaptation to our own environments. What I don't see in your writings is the acknowledgment of External Forces beyond our control.

Positive thoughts will not change genetics. Positive thoughts will not change the exposure one might have had to hormone like chemicals when they were a child. Nor what their mother ate or drank or was exposed to when pregnant. They might help your immune system to repair the damage by killing the affected cells. Cancer is really good at hiding from even a healthy immune system.

A positive additude is powerful, but it is not a panacea.

The strain on the human body as the result of stress is a complex issue, not always working the way you might think. One study I have seen showed that a stressful life actually inhibits the occurrence of breast cancer but makes it worse after diagnosis. I'm also hunting down findings from the large study of nurses that was recently published. As I recall, stress played a very small role in the progression on cancer. I recall a study (that I looked for and could not find) that grouchy people live longer than nice people.

SARS kills because a healthy immune system overreacts to the virus, flooding the lungs with fluid. Our antiseptic culture is rife with asthma because (as some believe) the immune system is not challenged enough and starts perceiving every pollen grain as a threat. Teaching your immune system about a virus is how flu shots work. Over time you catch a cold, it is teaching your body. I wonder if your change in mood comes after your exposure to a cold and only after a day or two, when you become aware of the change, that you purposefully correct it. Maybe the cause and effect works the other way 'round? That a virus can change your mood?

Cause and effect can be an endless loop with numerous variables. Your travels in time should provide examples for you to ponder.

Oh, and Tech, I have compassion for the loss of your loved ones. Peace be with you.
