If you're told to, you charge a machine gun. How do you convince a kid to do that? It ain't natural, after all. Indoctrination.
Or the Israeli Defence Force. You lob artillery shells into villages. (The difference being you don't take a chance with your own hide.)
Or an American pilot, dropping 500# bombs on a city. Infantryman hitting civilians with WP.
Or anyone torturing another human being. It takes indoctrination to create such monsters as work at Guantanamo, the secret prisons, Abu Ghraib.
It's all ugly.
The suicide bomber is, in his way, braver than some of the others.
