Simply not true. There's quite a bit of literature on suicide bombings now, not only in the mid-East but Tamil Tigers, etc., including much work done interviewing captured terrorists in Israel and elsewhere as well as would-be bombers in the various groups, done by political scientists, psychologists, etc., both in academia and in government.
Unless you define "brainwashed" to mean "willing to kill themselves to advance a cause, their own honor, whatever". Were kamikaze pilots brainwashed under your definition?
Some books to read include:
Dying to Kill: The Allure of Suicide Terror, Mia Bloom, Columbia Univ Press, 2004
Dying to Win: The Strategic Logic of Suicide Terror, Robert Pape, Cornell Univ., 2005
Understanding Terror Networks, Mark Sagemann, Univ. of Pennsylvania, 2004
Terror in the Name of God: Why Religious Militants Kill, Jessica Stern, Harper Collins, 2003
