That's a bit harsh, ER.

The message the VIBE site is selling is quite definable:

Passive benefits.

In other words, you don't have to work at anything, you can stand in front of this device and you will be purified of "toxic substances, thoughts or feelings".

Remember back in the 80s when electro-therapy excercising was sold in magazines? They may still sell it, but the 80s was its hey-dey. You would attach some pads to you abdomen and other body parts, turn on the machine and the electrical charges were supposed to alow you to "passively exercise". It was the ultimate no effort sales approach. Excercising is too tough! All you have to do is buy this equipment and attach some pads to your body!

The VIBE generator sells much the same thing - passive benefits. This time it is not for the body but for your soul. It's quackery, but its appeal is quite coherent, even if its technical descriptions of how the device benefits your suposed "bio-electric field" fall vastly short.

The passive exercise machine ads never promoted the fact that their machines were doing the exact same thing they did to mental patients (electroshock therapy) on a smaller scale.

The power to believe is strong. And if one believes something will help one, it often does. The trip to the doctor in itself is often theraputic, even if he/she just takes your temperature gives yo a prescription for a painkiller and says "you'll be fine".
