And in fact, having looked at the VIBE machine website, I'd say he got it in one.

The website makes many positive assertions concerning the machine's efficacy. It's only when you get to the bottom, where Mr. Koonce knows there must be a disclaimer lest he be sued for practicing medicine without a license, that we see a statement to the effect that everything stated above it is, not to put too fine a point on it, speculation.

I can buy lots of pills that guarantee they'll melt fat right off of me. Those shapely people say so on the commercials. Only in the little fine print at the end does it say that the results are not guaranteed and the results reported are not typical. Every once in a while I come across an infomercial that describes how to increase my health through repeated high colonics. Yuck. I'll stick to bran, thank you. Snake oil is dangerous stuff, and expensive, too.

Medicine is, and will always be, a practice because doctors haven't got it perfect yet, and never will as long as humans come in so many unique packages. Medicine is still preferable to expensive, aggressively marketted gimmicks that promise all kinds of things in their sales copy that their legal departments then deny in the next breath. Wait for the clinical trial, is my philosophy: even if the treatment is ineffective, at least it will be documented and benefit someone else, and if it's reached the clinical trial stage, that means there's something to it besides an advertizing campaign.

Doctors are human. They can't keep up with everything, and their education has taught many of them arrogance in their relationships with their patients. Turning to things that are not medicine will not change doctors, but patients can change doctors, by changing doctors.
