Interesting post

I'll have to discuss the very same issues with my kids (mid 20's). You bring up some good points. I grew up with "Leave it to Beaver", "Lassie" and "Father Knows Best". My parents gave the illusion of us all being a family. We had the "Boys and Girls" club and the population of our small town was mostly all white. We had a strong support system with school and church activities. It was safe for my brother and I to ride our bikes 10 miles to the local swimming hole when we were just kids and stay there all day by taking a lunch.

How far we've come in just a few decades. I blame a lot of the growing impersonal lifestyles on the media. When they started loosening the morality for films, music and video games; I knew it would lead to a decline in society. To some degree, it has been glorified and sold as a product. Younger kids are struggling to keep their moral compass with the senseless barrage of a carnal lifestyle glorifying sex and violence.
Add that to the pressures of today'as modern living and you have throw away kids in a throw away society.

I agree with you that mental illness is a sociological problem that needs to be addressed. But with the inability of our society to provide adequate health care, housing, education and social programs for the general public, the issue of the mentally ill falls through the cracks until it blows up on a side street in Melville, America.

Here again I see the culture of death among our leaders and foreign policy. Trillions are spent in black projects every year that are only adding to a dowbward spiral in international relations, while Amerixca sinks even lower back home. I don't know how close we are in age Mary Anne, but we've been able to see the decline and I don't think there's any going back. I worry what kind of society/world my grandchildren will be brought up in and what kind of dangers my kids will face trying to protect them in an ever-growing isolated and dangerous society. (No grandchildren yet). Thanks for your post.
