In his book, Pale Blue Dot, Carl Sagan envisioned humans living in the icy worlds out in the outer Solar System. As they used up the resources of their KBO or Oort cloud world, they would move on to the next.
It is theorized that our Oort cloud touches Alpha Centauri’s Oort cloud. Sagan speculated that if this is true, then those icy world humans could gradually make their way inside the Alpha Centauri System and eventually settle on the worlds there.
But he brought up a good point- would they want to. After generations of living in icy worlds in the dark of space, would they want to live on rocky worlds close to their stars.
Perhaps some would. Probably the younger generations. By then, medical and mechanical means might overcome the problems of going from lower gravity to higher gravity.
And I have read about using large asteroids as interstellar ships. If you are living in one, and you have plenty of resources, why not make it into a multi-generation ship.
