Need I say more?
Its always said that we can't afford it. But we sure as hell were able to afford this war, and we will go on 'affording' it for years- not only while we are there, but long after as we replace or rebuild all the exhausted materiel.
Nobody can argue that children under 18 deserve to die or live sickly existences. Even the most insane right winger, who equated disposable income with moral worth, can't say that children deserve to suffer because their parents are 'worthless lasy poor people' (not what I believe, but the basic far-right mentality undressed).
I am willing to bet that for the cost of the Iraq war, you could have provided health care to every uninsured chilod under 18. And probably sent the top 10% of every graduating highschool class to the best college that accepted them on top of that. Healthy children with a future: What else does any nation need to succeed in the future?
Hell, tickle the republicans funny bone, invest all of that money in US Stocks and Bonds, and be able offer that level of coverage for decades.
Ahhhh, but I'm sure there is some other third world countyr that needs multi-trillion dollar 'rubble shifting'.
