Generation Y or Millenials' (30 and under) are creating a Brave New World. They are leaving the Baby Boomers' shaking their heads in disbelief. Who would once be considered *Not a Company Man* and shown the exit is becoming the new norm. It will be interesting to see what transpires over the next few years.
At Lockheed-Martin alone, 75% of the employees will become eligible for retirement in 5 years. To be replaced by a group of youngins' that are kickin dirt in our faces.
Friends and family are their priority. Their concerns range from "Define what Casual Friday means" to 'I have to leave the job by 5:30 so I can avoid the traffic".
They tell employers when they will be taking vacation. They job hop until they find what they want. They are replacing Boomers, so they have their pick. What was once considered bad form to list several jobs in a short time on a resume is no longer considered a detriment...but a good thing. They are typically quite smart which makes up for their lack of experience. They have a feeling of empowerment which goes hand in hand with a sense of entitlement.
They are not the dedicated employees the Baby Boomers are...they have seen their parents give blood, sweat and tears only to be laid off ...Loyality is not in their mantra.
Employers are scrambling to re-adjust.
The next few years will be quite telling.
