"I get paid by the hour, not by the project."

If the employers are so concerned about a new generation of disloyal, self-centered and me-first employees, they have no one to blame but themselves. If you are going to treat workers like interchangeable plug-in carbon units to be discarded as quickly as possible, then you have no business whining when they start treating you the same way. Welcome to the free market, capitalist roader.

The corporate virtues of individualism, ambition, and innovation are prized in management, but looked at very suspiciously in workers. The covenant forged between management and labor during the industrial age has been broken, replaced by a ruthless competition between the two. The boss should never forget that the reason that new kid is working so hard yet producing so little is because he has his own agenda and the welfare of the company, the customers, or the stockholders plays no part in it. They are in it solely to make a profit, a very short term profit, and they're ready to sell the seed corn to do it. Surely, the modern executive can understand that.

Have a nice day.
