When you said "clicking on the photographer's name would reset the site to the the way I saw it when I first logged in", it seems blindingly obvious, but I didn't think of it. I should have--clicking on the logo or site name has become the convention for "return to home page". The site doesn't have a home page--or rather, all it has is a home page--but I can interpret that into "reset the site to its opening configuration".
The pattern you describe under IE6 sounds reasonable, for a failure mode. Things are almost working, but with key pieces failing to display.
You're right, the fractional number problem could get me...though I might wonder why anybody would try to enter a fractional quantity, Murphy's Law and the cussedness of humans guarantees that somebody, someday, will do it.
Thanks for the feedback and suggestions.
