I'm struck by how often modern Conservatives sound like fictional villains, and historical fictional villains at that. One of the many things that Wingers complain about is that the Liberal Media Conspiracy deliberately models its villains after Conservatives, but if so, the LMC has been around for millenia.
Daddy Warbucks and Snidely Whiplash predate modern (post-WWII) Conservatives. There's Richlieu and a host of other anti-democrats going back further. But even the Bible has villains that resemble modern Conservatives--moneychangers in the temple, the rich man with less chance of achieving heaven than the camel threading the eye of the needle, as well as abundant prophetic criticism of the social policies of modern Wingers.
Perhaps it's merely in character that Conservatives who so love tradition so resemble traditional villains.
