Better than that...

Hi All

Instead of seeing the Project's vast Artefact as a "ship" see it as a City with a changing location.

Travelling there? Your body is scanned down to sub-cellular levels, then put into stasis. Your specs are beamed to the Star City, then a generic body is reconfigured to your detailed specifications - subjectively You2 will feel just like you.

After you've visited, You2 is deep-scanned and returned to default. Your old body is updated on how you've changed - keeping or leaving behind things like broken bones and battle-scars - and you're back to being your old body's OS, with a swag of memories of life on Star City.

Of course if people aren't squeamish about their old bodies they might opt for recycling of the body and merely get a new one printed out to spec on return to Earth.

What happens if you and You2 are both active? Effectively that's no longer teleportation, but is instead reproduction - effectively two people with now diverging life-histories. You and You2 could merge - as separate people might chose to do with such techniques being available - but I'd suggest being separate people would suit most of us.

And just how many different people are we within our own skulls anyway?
