re: costs

The financial cost is still much less than what we spend on other things, like social programs, and at about $160 billion a year is currently is running at about one percent of GDP. Note that the Left has had to invent numbers to try to make this argument stick.

The human cost is high, but in terms of U.S. casualties, far less than that of Vietnam, WWII, or any other major war we've fought in. Iraqi casualties have been high, but mostly at the hands of al Qaeda and insurgents, who would inflict far more of them if we left.

At around 90,000 according to iraqbodycount.org, there are still about a dozen Iraqis dead due to the wars and oppression of Saddam for every one who has died since his ouster. I've noticed that the Left has had to invent numbers on this issue, too.

Again, if Iraq ends up like South Korea instead of North Korea, will it be worth it? It's been a while since Iraqis themselves have been polled on this.

As for reputation, that seems to be hung out there a lot. I'm wondering what the actual list of nations would be who think we suck now who thought we were great in 2002. Even France seems to be in a different mood. Mostly the problem seems to be our "reputation" with leftists and leftist leaders around the world. Oh, and radical Islamists.

I'm sure Democrats can't wait until someone gets in office who will do what it takes to make everyone in the world like us. After all, isn't that what respect is all about?

Most of us know what it means when you get into a negotiation with a hostile opponent, and he's smiling and waving when you leave. It means you're probably not wearing any pants.

If Obama wins, he's going to spend the next four years getting danced around the Maypole by every two-bit thug on the planet.
