No one can beat us at our kind of war, so they're learning to fight us at the kinds we're not so good at. It's that simple.

Modern mechanized armies are mission-oriented, each unit, from infantry squad to theatre Army, is given a specific assignment, all part of a coordinated plan to bring about a desired result: the denial of the other side's ability to do the same thing. When your enemy has no tactical objectives, only strategic ones, all they really have to do is survive. You are the one that has to win. Eventually, the mission-oriented force runs out of things to do and just runs down. It's how we defeated the Crown during the Revolutionary War, and how the Vietnamese defeated us.

Saddam tried to fight our kind of war and he never had a chance. Our enemies learned from this, we did not.
