I just realized you misread this. It doesn't mean "what recession?" It should say "So how's that manufactured recession coming?"

The intent was to show what the Democrats and the media were using the economy as a political weapon now that their "get out now!" Iraq policy has blown up in their face.

The current economic problems were triggered by real mortgage and banking problems, but the Democrats and their pals in the media took this, wrapped it up, and fired it out the torpedo tube about October of 2007 when the Iraq results were becoming too obvious for even the media to dismiss.

For the last five months the media have blared impending economic doom on the front pages every day of the week, sometimes using real statistics, but more often using cherry-picked local numbers that ignored larger trends ("Philadelphia district Federal Reserve manufacturing statistics")

It's exactly what they did for the 1992 elections. Worked then, too.

Like I said elsewhere, anybody who got all their news from the mainstream media in recent months would be under a bed in a fetal position with a sock full of gold coins.

Stock market gets scared, consumers get scared, businesses get scared, government panics and starts doing stupid stuff. Self-fulfilling prophecies.
