First off, I am a gay rights activist. THAT being said...it should not be mandatory in the sense where everyone has to take the course. It should be an elective, but only in high school- eleventh and twelfth grades. Call it diversity training. Include racism, differing religions, sexual harassment issues, special needs kids, obesity,you name it. Allow guest speakers. Keep the parents informed and allowed to sit in on the class at any time. Show PG movies on the issues. Poster contests, poetry contests...ask the kids to help plan the course.
