No American History until high school, and yet middle-school kids can apparently easily handle issues of homosexuality and transgenderism without a "certain degree of maturity." Go figure.
My kids could name most of the Native American tribes in California in middle school. They learned about ancient Egypt, the Mayans and Medieval times. Pretty much anything in world history after WWI was a black hole, as was most of U.S. history in general. There was a lot about slavery.
Someone who goes into tenth grade without knowing who Winston Churchill was, is missing something. Fortunately, my kids did their own reading.
