I agree the situation seems encouraging in Iraq.

Malaki has strengthened his position considerably by pacifying Basra, Sadr City and Mosul, almost entirely with Iraqi forces. I see the US election and the specter of American departure as a wake uo call to the Iraqis.

Obviously the surge and the agreements with the Sunnis have helped the government get on it's feet. The execution of Saddam is in my opinion a factor in the sunnis coming around.

While I don't tout the Dem line on withdrawl, I doubt Obama or Hillary would do that on a large scale fast if it seriously destabilized Iraq, especially if the war is nearly won.

And I refuse to let Bush and his neo con buddies off the hook for their arrogant resistance to change course for four long years while thousands of our soldiers died. Clearly the loss of the 2006 election was what forced Bush to change course, at least three years too late! Is there any doubt this guy is the dumbest president?
