Get serious.
If that were the case almost every business in China and most in India would be shut down and the rest of the third world would be equally "business free."
As the left shelters and romanticizes the 3rd world as some sacred cow which is more moral than the USA, and heaps pure hate on our efforts to help mold and bring democracy to these nations, that you have the gall to declare that businesses that can't pay a living wage should be shut down is pure insanity. No less.
Most of the major accomplishments in human history relied on cheap and plentiful labor. The railroads, the Panama Canal, The pyramids, the great wall of China, the building of St. Petersburg, the Roman roads and aqua-ducts and the list goes on and on. Many were paid just enough for food to survive, or in ancient times, were actually paid in food.
There will always be need of men who work for little more than sustenance. The men will do so out of desperation or desire. In much of the 3rd world they are HAPPY to work for enough to provide food. Without those "evil" businesses - millions more would starve to death.
In answer to Jody's post asking why liberals are considered elitist - your post above is exhibit A. ;-)
It's like liberals, for all their vaunted social awareness, are, in reality, completely socially and historically illiterate.
Your business policies if enacted would condemn hundreds of millions to death.
