The younger generation is doing just fine. I run across them all the time in tech. They don't want to play by our rules, but they want to 'get shit done'- usually in their own way. Yes, they have this bizarre conceit that the world revolves around them, and yes you have to learn how to deal with their insistence that they are 'special'. But, they are smart, literate, well educated, ambitious and really do believe in the power of their own labor. All you have to do is line them up and get them invested in whatever project, get them emotionally invested, and they'll do good work.
The 'younger' 20-somethings entering the work force, at least in technology, are not the people I'm worried about- at least in America. Its the incompetent self-absorbed baby boomers who screwed up everything they put their mind to 'setting right', elected some of the worst government our nation has ever seen, and still sit fatly on the seniority heap that I'm worried about. I just hope to god we can see that generation off into retirement in florida or whatever Dennis-Hopper Meets AARP fantasy they want to build for themselves before its too late to turn the ship around.
My generation will likely not have to really pay for their screw-ups, but those 20-somethings you grouse about know full well what a shitstorm they're in for. I may actually be able to retire someday- but the kids entering the workplace now know tha the deck is loaded.
