Of course the world of Mayberry was a myth. It was an idealized place.
Who on Earth would watch TV to see what they could see just outside their front porch?
Mayberry, like Disneyland's Main Street was an idealized American dream. Walt Disney admitted his home town was not like Main Street on Disneyland, but it had similarities when at its best.
America wanted to be like Mayberry and millions flocked to Main Street because they wanted to escape the filth, crime and violence of the cities - that's the same reason the suburbs were created.
Suburbia was Mayberry - at least in the minds of the 1st homeowners. It was even better because it was closer to the big cities and was the best of both worlds. An escape from the poor, blighted folks and a refuge to be with people like yourself.
It was an act of socio-economic alignment. All tract housing has that in common. The buyers seek the BEST they can afford to remove themselves as far as possible from that which they dislike, that which they discriminate against because they dislike it. They disliked cramped quarters, violence, crime, gangs, filth and the tenements and the people who inhabited them.
Sure they had inhabited them - but they at least acknowledged to themselves that wasn't the ideal. hey then proceeded to remold their lives and their environment to be better suited to what they preferred.
When I read these posts I see this total lack of understanding. The left wants a world that mirrors their beliefs.
The left ARE seeking Mayberry. You and Bows, MA, Alcaray, Z, Eric Lindy, Arrell, Eri, Fox, Robert....all seek a Mayberry.
The left's Mayberry has rainbow street signs, folks of every color are all around and white has just a very small representation. Women are married to women and men to men. No one looks twice as they walk down Main Street with their adopted bisexual and transgender teens. Every language is heard - except English. The blockbuster is replaced with a multicultural bath house and the fast food joints are replaced by cooperative farm outlets that sell wheat germ burgers and soy shakes. Abortions are available at the local Market and condom machines replace bubble gum machines next to the cash registers/check out lines. The minimum wage is 40.00. The government pays for everything in this Mayberry. There are no poor folks and the government pays all those who don't want to work just because they believe in the right things - and that is enough.
Yes, the left has it's Mayberry and Main Street. They are just as bogus, if not moreso, than the right's Mayberry where the jail cells are always empty and everyone looks like Andy Griffith or Aunt Bea.
You far left folks are just in denial of your true motivations. You guys enjoy having a Lee around because his extremity justifies your own. I Hate to point it out...but folks... Lee IS your mirror image.
Think about it for awhile and you'll realize the horrible truth of the situation. He's seeking his Mayberry just like everyone here is seeking their own.
Discrimination is a key part of both your fantasies. The only difference is Lee is a bit more forthright about his prejudices than the rest here are.
