It's getting a course in what happens when the government decides that the market isn't delivering the results it ought to, and that Something Should Be Done. We are looking at the result of decades of a government policy to deliver home ownership to good people who otherwise really couldn't afford it. And we are seeing the response of the market and private sector to decades of the government putting pennies in the fuse box of market forces.
The road to insolvency is also paved with good intentions.
Go back and look at the real history of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. Sure as hell the Congress won't until after the election. Too many fast fuses from that bomb running to the wrong people.
Everything going on now can be explained in two words: "Federally backed."
