Maybe in a century from now

That's called "moving the goalposts"

SETI has made numerous privately funded efforts and has explored frequency and sensitivity domains FAR exceeding those even imagined in the early years of the space age.

Expectations were FAR different in the 1st 2 decades of the space age. Try reading Carl Sagan's Viking speculations pre-Viking lander decades POST Sputnik or better yet SETI expectations. Didn't happen.

Now, the goalposts move to the 22nd century,

How convenient.
