The whole gang were traitors and treasonous. All the way to the top. Selling weapons to terrorists and using the funds to finance a war that had been specifically forbidden by congress. Both are hanging offenses in any country's book, and I am not speaking metaphorically. And all done by an administration that had gotten elected by promising the people they would never knuckle under to terrorists. so they could brag about how they freed the hostages and how tough they were. And then the apologists tell us, "Oh, it's ok, they were fighting Communism".

When I first saw this all unfold I cannot tell you the incredible sense of shame I felt for my country. It's not just that we had done something wrong. Countries sometimes do illegal or crooked things for the perceived national interest, and sometimes they get caught at it. Eisenhower and the U2 is an example. It was a violation of international law, and we were embarassed, but rightly or wrongly, he felt it had to be done for national security's sake.

But Iran Contra was just plain vile hypocrisy. I felt shame because my country had been exposed as a nation of self-serving, petty little fawning butt kissers, swine who would do anything to gain their way, and forward their position; we were disgraced before our enemies AND our friends. It was America's foulest hour, and I will never forgive them or those who made, and still make excuses for them.
