re: Could you provide a link to an example?

If I linked to some, I'd probably have to link to all of them. Anybody who's been reading the boards for more than a week has seen the examples go by. Suffice it to say, a lot of people come to the table with information that is wrong, often hugely, when--given the near-unlimited access to information we have now--it would normally take minutes to find out what the truth is.

I'm coming to believe they don't think the truth fits their viewpoints, so they don't really care. This is supported by the fact that many of these canards arise here time after time, often from the same people, after having been corrected more than once in the past.

I'm told that numbers don't matter, that references don't matter, that history doesn't matter. It's more obvious and amusing in anomaly-related posts, but it's just as true for the political and economic ones.

This is the inversion I talked about a couple of years ago--an intellectual "singularity" in reverse, where information comes out, but nothing gets in.
