Flame » in reply to That kind of business owner is more common than you might think

I have no problem with the individual entrepreneur chasing a dream.

My gripe is with the investor who has no idea what the company he invests in does, or makes.
Its just a set of profit and loss statements, a three letter code followed by a number, usually hedged in with a bundle of other anonymous firms to spread out the risk. This is what I mean by "Capitalism" today, what the banks and hedge funds do. It is the final corrupt decadent step in the evolution of the system. Its had all the humanity stripped out of it.

Capitalism isn't guys in garages inventing Silicon Valley any more than it is a kid's lemonade stand on a street corner. Companies are now owned by other companies, which are owned by other companies, and so on. Its all abstract, and often mechanized and fully automated. And when it fails, it implodes spectacularly.
