We all know the joke about how fusion is always 40 years down the road. I know there was recently a breakthrough but we're still a very long ways away. But I firmly believe someday it will happen. Do you?

I also believe if civilization survives long enough we will discover a cheap clean and abundant energy source. That would fall in your first category of impossible things. Cold fusion 2.0 or Air Gen or something else entirely.
