Re: it's the leftitude, dude.

Have you ever checked to see if your worldview has any basis in fact? Or are you just comfortable keeping it in the realm of vague generalities?

Have you actually checked out who your theoretical "socioeconomic class" consists of? You got any names? Do you know what their political parties are? Their political beliefs? I can see you believe this "class" consists of Republicans and conservatives, but who is actually doing the moving and shaking, and what are their political beliefs?

Since Obama has been elected, out there in the real world away from the forums and blogs, who's been screaming the loudest about the "dangers" of a particular point of view? What has our news media been telling us? Who was darkly speculating about citizens with guns, people who live in "compounds," and the spectre of assassination? Was it a conservative who let loose the term "Stalinist" in his hysterical column in the New York Times? I hear a lot about "right-wingers" and "teabaggers" on the national news outlets (you know, the people who are supposed to be our objective news sources). Have you ever heard the term "left-winger" or "leftist?" Or like you do they simply believe that the political spectrum has only one side, and there are the "moderates" like Obama, Pelosi, Frank, Reid, and those people who think the government should nationalize our health care system, and somehow everyone else stands on their right and nobody stands on their left.

To them, it's "what is this 'left' of which you speak?" I read a movie review that stated the ignorance of modern young people about leftism and communism, and phrased it (roughly) like this: "Most young people today have probably never even seen anyone to the left of Michael Moore." The point he was trying to make depended on the idea that Michael Moore is a "moderate."

So tell me, if I'm supposed to be worried about a "movement," which political philosophy in this country claims the right to control my life and choices at every level, and demands ever more of my property and wealth to achieve their ends?

I don't stay awake nights wondering if Bill Gates or the CEO of some bank is going to force me to march to their drumbeat, or take my money without so much as a by-your-leave (like my state just did).

I don't worry about the rich. I worry about the ones with the power of legal force.

Shorter version: Your first paragraph does apply to a particular group, but I don't think it's the one you intended.
