This isn't just about the money. They are going to wreck one of the best health care systems in the world (don't believe everything WHO tells you).
The Democratic goal is turning control of the health care system (including whatever survives of the private insurance industry) over to one of the most venal, incompetent, and inefficient organizations in this country, the Federal government. Anyone who thinks this program will result in lower costs, greater efficiency, and better health care for everyone is putting wishful thinking ahead of years of history, and ignoring the many examples of promises that turned into crap. Remember the Space Shuttle promising "$50 a pound to orbit?" The "$8 billion Space Station?" I do.
For the record, I would be equally appalled if someone reorganized the health care system to turn it all over to a single giant private corporation, and the results would be the same.
The weird part is, only the latter situation would bother a liberal.
