The major flaw in US foreign policy, and in its conservative apologists, is not that it assumes the Reds were "bad guys", but in trying to convince ourselves that we were the only good guys. Every country looks out for number one first, there is no altruism, and the international arena is one of violence and treachery, with even the best of friends selling each other down the river whenever they think they can get away with it. We are no different in morality than anyone else, although we are generally at the bottom of the list when it comes to competence.

While you're at it, look up the Vietnamese Declaration of Independence, written by Uncle Ho himself, on 2 Sep, 1945:

The compatriots of the entire country,

All men are created equal; they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights; among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.

This immortal statement was made in the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America in 1776. In a broader sense, this means: All the peoples on the earth are equal from birth, all the peoples have a right to live, to be happy and free.

''The Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen of the French Revolution made in 1791 also states: All men are born free and with equal rights, and must always remain free and have equal rights.
Those are undeniable truths.''

Nevertheless, for more than eighty years, the French imperialists, abusing the standard of Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity, have violated our Fatherland and oppressed our fellow citizens. They have acted contrary to the ideals of humanity and justice.

Here follows a lengthy "catalogue of usurpations" practically lifted straight from Thomas Jefferson, but directed at the French. The document then continues...
