The Morton salt on my shelf contains:
Salt
Calcium Silicate (the anti-caking agent)
Dextrose (that's the one that surprised me. Apparently it stabilizes the Potassium Iodide)
Potassium Iodide
I don't have uniodized salt around, but I assume the last two ingredients wouldn't be in it.
Anybody selling you the idea that somehow these additives "prevent" the salt from being absorbed naturally by the body is as full of shit as a Christmas goose. Sorry, that's just a scientific fact, and a thousand "organic" salt salesmen saying otherwise isn't going to change that. And as far as excessive salt intake goes, sodium is sodium.
Now, if you want to talk about the added minerals in sea salt or other natural salts being more nutritious than plain salt, or that it has a more complex and better taste, then you've got a much better case. But too many people go overboard by not just saying how natural food is better, they have to paint other foods as "poison."
