Although that happened almost 30 years ago, I signed a paper promising I would not reveal the location or the exact method, and as far as I know it is still in force. The outline I wrote here is consistent with papers published by the geochemists prior to this particular research.
The research I describe was deliberately withdrawn from publication and buried by the company (due to a boardroom legal battle involving competing profit centers in the company) and the scientists forbidden to publish or apply for patents, as was normally their right. They both immediately resigned in protest, and I followed them out the door just a few months later.
