Re: "Uniquely Western Anglo Saxon"

How can anyone make a decision for an entire culture to "decide to suicide"? It has to be done by a lot of people with a lot of power, people who have a lot to sell and a lot to buy, and the clout to pull it off.

What I believe is much more likely is that a nation has become so obsessed with a culture of accumulation of personal wealth that it has become incapable of making collective sacrifices and national policy that benefit all, not just a few in the commercial elite.

It isn't liberals selling our souls and national treasure to the Chinese for filthy lucre, it's the business community. The people who are lobbying to get a piece of that action are the ones buying the rope. As far as I'm concerned, they are no better than war profiteers.

I worked for a Silicon Valley defense contractor that had to lobby for special licenses from the Reagan Administration to sell the Chinese image processing technology used by our own intelligence agencies. And they got them, too. And this was years before Google.

Don't give me any crap about cultural suicide. It's just business as usual.
