Hey, I'm a liberal, and I hate soccer. I also hate all other "organized" sports, too, although I used to love to play hard and softball when I was a yout'. There's nothing wrong with games per se but spectator sports is like pornography: vicarious pleasure gained by watching someone else have a good time. Like porn, it's probably OK, maybe even beneficial, in moderation. But substituting it for the real thing is kinda creepy, IMHO.
As for "cramming soccer down Americans' throats", did it ever occur to you that maybe it's the capitalist world responsible for this? After all, they've already squeezed every nickel they can out of the plebes with college and pro sports, so advertisers and promoters are looking for new venues to peddle Viagra and razor blades to middle class couch potatoes. Mayby your soccer harpy had best look to Lite Beer, not Libs, as the source of this latest plague.
