Trench warfare
What's "good for the country" has nothing to do with it.
The whole point of the Teabaggers and their ilk IS trench warfare, endless conflict and paralysis so that eventually those in the middle will tire of the chaos, and cowed by the terror, will accept authoritarian rule in a desperate desire to return to normalcy.
This is a malady common to nations suffering severe domestic economic problems and foreign military reverses. The power vacuum caused by this implosion is filled by a coalition of those who feel they are being disposessed and the opportunists who shrewdly exploit them. It's how the Bosheviks took power in Russia, and the Nazis in Germany.
