I’m get really tired of having to sort out who’s “data†is correct, so, ignoring whether profits are going up or down:
Profits come after all the grunts, middle management, and executives are paid their wages, salaries and bonuses. The individuals that make up the corporation (who haven't been laid off because of the recession) are not hurting during times of negative growth * - not that we want anyone to hurt, it's just makes it more difficult to feel sorry for the corporation if profits are down.
We might want to worry though, because profits are used to make the company grow which means they hire more workers and buy more physical capital. Obviously jobs and spending in the private sector are what we need to get out of this mess.
*"Negative growth"- I love that term
