Fuming
I have plenty of asumptions that I need to check out but I do know software engineers are paid about $70,000 per year and that is going down because of outsourcing. The job usually requires at least a BS in Computer Science and if they wanted to, graduates could teach math and science far better than a 7th grade teacher teaches social studies.
The problem for SE's is- there is no union. They're rewarded for what they produce, not how long the've been doing it.
