The supreme court recently determined the meaning and intent of the 2nd and made it clear it is protecting a right given to the private citizen.
The 14th was clearly intended to give newly freed slaves the privileges of citizenship. The authors of the 14th did not forsee the abuse of the amendment almost 150 years later.
There may come a time that you'll wish you had a personal arsenal. The framers gave you a provision for that event, if needed.
